Dayton eighth grade students help clean up Dayton cemetery, annual project for the class for the past 17 Years. Joel Palmer donated the land for the cemetery on the condition that the school keep it maintained. Also, anyone working for the school district has a free plot. Many historically famous persons are buried there including George Sager, survivor of the Whitman Massacre of 1847; and three of the Champoeg Provisional Government of 1846 (the original government which decided to be an American colony). Helping direct the operation was Marge Morgan and Tim Duerfeldt, school teachers.
