Recorded tracing of a patient's heartbeat from the new General Electric monitoring system is
checked by Dr. Paul A. VanucheIen with Mrs. Carol Barrows as Dr. W. T. Ross observes at
Physicians’ Medical Center. In the background is a five-inch oscilloscope which provides
instant detection on changes in heartbeat rhythm. The system, one of two installed in
the past month at McMinnville Hospital and Physicians’ Medical Center, is expected to save
lives of many local heart attack victims. Special rooms and control facilities and highly
trained attendants are being provided by both hospitals. Medical experts believe 45,000 lives could be saved annually in the nation if all hospital facilities could provide the monitoring service.
