1941-11-27, Death's Scythe Misses Twice, Two cars, both registered to Oregon City owners, crashed off the highway at the St. Joseph bridge just south of the Carlton junction of highway 99W within 24 hours of each others Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The mess of wreckage in the picture is what was left of a light pickup truck and trailor which crashed out of control Saturday afternoon almost one hundred feet down the bank of the North Yamhill river coming to a halt just short of the water seen in the background behind the brush. The driver, J.N. Fast, about 65, escaped unhurt. The lower panel show a coupe which plunged through the guard rail on the north end of the bridge Sunday afternoon. The driver of the car was apparently unhurt, according to the investigating officer, who stated that no report of the accident had been made. The car was registered to Carl Bernert, Oregon City.
