One of Santa’s helpers, Jewell Thompson, communications clerk for the McMinnville City Police, is shown with 35 dolls she has repaired and attired for the Fire department's ”Santa Workshop" project. Clothes are all handmade, frilly with lace and many with crocheted shoes. Mrs.Thompson volunteered a year ago to assist with the Christmas program of the city Firemen and dolls are her speciality. Just the thought of some little girl's Christmas being made happy with a doll is reward enough, she said. [The Fire Department is adopting needy children in the county and parents of children in need of toys should come to the station and contact firemen. Many toys have been repaired, ranging from trikes to dolls and games to roller skates. Many of the toys have been wrapped already by members of the Gamma Lambda Sorority of McMinnville, Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, national non-academic sorority. But more toys are needed. See story page one.]
