Operation of the new IBM Magnetic Tape Selectric Composer computer system, installed for production of today’s issue of The News-Register, is checked by Mrs. Lillian Etherton, Production Superintendent, Homer Rohse, Advertising Director, and Publisher Philip N. Bladine. Mrs. Lois Gillins, seated operates the computer output unit. Larger and varied type styles for text and small headline composition are possible on the IBM system. The News-Register units are the first newspaper installation in Oregon and second in the continental Northwest states.
