1957-4-8 Students Set Huge Mileage Recordsbr/9709br/Winners of the safety-economy run for McMinnville high school students receive awards at a banquet held in junior high school cafetorium at completion of the course. W.F. Abendroth, representing the General Petroleum corporation, a sponsoring organization of the run, hands first place trophy to Roy Gill, second from left. Gill took top honors with ton mileage of 79.02, computed from his actual mileage of 31.87 miles per gallon in relation to the weight of his car. Second place winner was Steve Spiller, left, who recorded 76. 58 ton miles and 35.28 actual mileage. Jerry Wagner, second from right, took third place with ton mileage of 72.25. His actual mileage of 42,95 miles per gallon tied for first in that division with Jim Chalmers, left. Both Wagner and Chalmers received plaques for the best actual mileage.
