Big Tomatoes Grown Here
Weighing in at one and a half pounds and one pound one ounce, these tomatoes are typical of the “king size” products produced in Yamhill county. Grown by Mike Hopfer, 1104 East Fifth street, they are two of several weighing more than a pound. The tomatoes are Burpee’s hybrid and came from vines nearly six feet high. Hopfer attributes the large size to his preparation of the ground and “plenty of water". He also grew early cabbages weighing seven and a half pounds.
