This outdoor pile of more than 20,000 sacks of barley is setting on a lot across from Buchanan & Cellars Grain Co. in McMinnville. “Barley, at $5 per sack, makes this the most valuable pile we have ever had,” says Stan Cellars. The stack is 25 feet high and about 60 by 100 feet long. Burlingham Meeker, Amity, also have nearly 20,000 sacks of barley stored outdoors in six different piles, Much will go to brewmasters in the east. Assistant County Agent Norton Taylor says that eastern brewmasters, once they have used western barley, prefer it to that grown in the east, increasing demand here.
