1950-1-26 Kau, Mrs. Shirley portrait in thread of Crater Lake.jpeg

January 26, 1950
PORTAlT IN THREAD of scenic Crater Lake depicts intricate color schemes on this sewing stitched picture. Mrs. Shirley Kau, Pleasantdale, is the artist and this is the first of such portraits which she has made. Three others are now in progress. They are Lamola Falls on the Umpqua River; Silver Creek Falls; and Mt. Hood. Mrs. Kau teaches embroidery work in Salem at the Yeater Appliance Company. In addition to her sewing machine work, she also paints pictures. The Crater Lake creation has been estimated to be worth $3,000. It took Mrs Kau four weeks, working three days a week, to complete it.
