1969 Mexican American Fiesta 020

1969 Mexican American Fiesta 020

May 31, 1969
One of the highlights of the three-day Mexican-American Fiesta sponsored by the Farmworkers' Club and the Retail Merchants Association of McMinnville was the coronation of Queen Elva Salinas a high school junior, Runners-up were Olivia Lopez (Princess No. 1) and Marihelen Galaviz (Princess No. 2). The queen was the girl who raised the most money for the proposed all-purpose center which the Farmworkers' Club plans to build, to be used especially for child care. Miss Salinas alone raised over $400, mostly by making and selling tacos. She is shown here with escort George Aleman (a Vietnam veteran and son of the Farmworkers’ president) and Mrs. Isabel Montemayor, coordinator along with Mr. Dan Cole of the Retail Merchants ofthe Fiesta. In announcing activities scheduled for Friday, Mrs. Montemayor stressed that the Fiesta was a cooperative venture: "We're selling both tacos and hot dogs at the booth, which shows that this is truly a Mexican AND American celebration!"
