Petitions for an election among voters of Dayton School District 8 and McMinnville School District 40 on a question of consolidation of the two major Yamhill County school units were filed in Superintendent Lynn Gubser’s office Thursday afternoon by Fred A. Shinn and Mrs. B.M. Porter. Receiving the petitions, which bore several hundred signatures from the two areas, is Mrs. Trudy Hartung, secretary in the superintendent's office. The petitions were directed by the new Yamhill County school district reorganization board and requested study and subsequent election. Sponsors of the petition apparently come from the Lafayette rural area included in the Dayton district last year by the county boundary board but many signatures on the petitions were from prominent Dayton city residents.
