1938-9-8, Sacrifices on the Altar of Education,
"Youthful feel drag; a dog sits in dejected loneliness. Pals together during the long summer play days, their time is almost up, and Monday morning will mark many a scene like this at the entrance of McMinnville schools as some 1100 children herals the coming of fall by marching back to their desks and books for nine long months. New studies, new friends, new schedule- and a few new pangs in youthful hearts. But there still will be plenty of time for play, too, among McMinnville's steadily increasing school population. Partings like this may not be "such sweet sorrow" but at least they don't last too long."
