1938-10-20, Modern Miracle of Electricity,
"From the old to the new-from kerosene to the "electric eye." That is the story of the modern achievement of the Happy Valley school. Lamps last year the pupils did their school work by the light of kerosene lamps. This year their illumination is furnished by electric light, controlled always by the guardian "electric eye," new scientific marvel that makes lights brighter as the day grows darker or lessens the amount of illumination to corresponds with increasing brightness in the room. These pictures show a day in the life of Happy Valley school children. Mrs, Everett Trent, teacher, (top) stands on the porch of the one-room school as two children mount the stairs to being their day's work. School is under way (center) with no more worries about proper lighting. Student Mark Allen (lower left) raises the American flag to start the day. Leslie Farnham (lower right), who installed the "electric eye," makes a final adjustment on this mechanical guardian of eyesight."
