1940-5-9, "Despite Increased Use of Machinery, Horses Still Play a Part" Arlene Kuehne, young daughter of Owner Harry Kuehne, surveys this strings of five teams of farm-helpers on her father's Bar-K Stock Ranch, located east of Carlton, while astride her favorite pony (left). Despite the increasing use of various machines for agricultural operations, horses are still the solution of a large number of farm problems. The two individuals at the right, however, are a pair of heavy work mules who were drinking at the watering trough just before the picture was taken and marched around into line of their own volition. The Kuehne's pet spaniel surveys the lineup from the foreground.
