Isn't Worth Much Now
THE SCRAWL AT THE BOTTOM of this glorified certificate of award presented a hero of the now defunct Nazi Germany is believed to be A. Hitler's own. H. K. Clark, veterans administration representative for this area, found it in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, while serving with the 3rd Tank Destroyer group. Translation, made by Wm R. Frerichs, Linfield college professor, is: “In the Name of the German people I bestow upon Major Wolfgang Ewald the Knight's cross of the Iron Cross. Headquarters of the Fuhrer, Dec. 9, 1942, The Fuhrer and commander in chief of the army". Some lettering is gold leaf.
