The familiar three-wheel U. S. Mail carriers have been replaced at the McMinnville post office by 4-wheel 90 horsepower Kaiser jeeps. Postmaster Robert Ballard said the old vehicles were 30 h.p. and presented maintenance problems for the department, besides being fragile. New jeeps will improve efficiency of department, Ballard said, since both parcel post and letters can now be carried in larger cars. Two trips were required before. Three-wheelers will be sold by bid at Salem, and persons may turn in name to McMinnville post office.
