Long-Time Main Street Butchers Retire

Closing on June 30 of Yamhill County’s oldest independent meat market and one of McMinnville’s oldest businesses was announced this week by Arthur W. King, owner of King’s Market for 42 years.
King purchased Fisher’s Market in 1927, Coming to McMinnville from Hillsboro where he had started in the meat business in 1918. The store was located on the south side of Third Street between Baker and Cowls and was moved to its present location in 1933.
His decision to close the market next Monday came, King said this week, when long-time employee Lee Trent decided to retire. “I couldn’t run the market without Lee," King said, “and it’s too tough to start in training new help.”
