Sidewalk Puddle Floats Boat
After Saturday morning rain, Roy Yates of Rt. 2, Gaston, Finds enough water to float a toy boat on the sidewalk in front of Redmond Shoe store, 315 Third street. Watching is Leon Redmond, owner of the store. While the sidewalk puddles may have inconvenienced McMinnville shoppers, residents in an area of Portland were in a worse predicament, A collapsed sewer trunk in a southeast section of the city sent water over a 12-block area, flooding scores of basements, stranding cars in the streets and making living conditions generally miserable. Geyers spouted water as high as six feet in the air and manhole covers were blown off by water pressure as sewers backed up. More than an inch of rain fell within a few hours.
