1947 Parking Meters 1.jpeg

1947 Parking Meters 1.jpeg

February 27, 1947
EVERYONE PAYS, even the mayor, as is substantiated by this photo showing Mayor Windishar officially christening McMinnville’s parking meters by depositing a nickel in the meter after parking his car in front his place of business at 9 a.m. last Monday morning. Woodrow Conklin, police chief, far right, and Ed Peterson, meter maintenance supervisor, second from left, give the mayor “moral” encouragement. At far left is Police Officer William E. Wilson, solidly astride his motorcycle and ready to make his tour of McMinnvilIe meter zones to help with parking problems. Police issued only warning slips this week, but state that next week bona fide traffic tickets will be given for overtime parking.
