July 25, 1957br/LAFAYETTE mdash;-Construction progress on the huge new bridge crossing of the Yamhill River here can be seen, right, as the new concrete project takes shape under the deck of the old steel structure. Work on the $240,000 project, 20 per cent of which is being paid by Yamhill county, was started last fall under an Oregon highway commission contract. The new bridge and fill will replace 900 feet of approaches and bridge. Officials anticipate that the project will be open to travel, ending a serious use problem for residents along both sides of the river, in December.br/ br/At left workman prepare a wood deck for the six inch concrete slab to be poured on the center section. Beams in the center span weigh 35 tons. When the slab is poured the old steel unit will be lowered and dismantled.
