February 27, 1962br/Drive Underway - Dayton Scouts of Troop 253 got their scrap iron and battery collection drive underway Saturday in the first part of a campaign to raise funds for a new Scout hall in Dayton. Three old batteries were collected in their first stop by (left to right) Curt Sample (along for the ride); Jack Flock, Scout official; and Scouts Gary Flock, Steve Sample, George Sample, Del Sample and Gary Cappoen. About 11 tons of scrap was hauled for sale in Portland Monday. The drive will be continued this coming Saturday. Persons with scap to donate are asked to call Dayton 83X2 or 1081 to make arrangements for collection.
