1937-7-22 Cherries barrelled at Wright Wanut Dryer-3
July 22, 1937
Between $50,000 and $60,000 Worth of Cherries Barrelled
In the picture at top some of the nearly 2500 barrels of cherries from Hillcrest and Eola Hills orchards are shown outside the Wright Walnut dryer on Lafayette avenue. In the lower picture are shown boxes of cherries inside the plant awaiting barrelling. After the cherries have been in a solution in the barrels for about two weeks, they are bleached and preserved. The process is one of the steps in preparation of maraschino type cherries. It is the first time the barrelling has been carried on here on a large scale.
