High Water Puts New Ferry in River's Center
The new Wheatland ferry, built jointly by Marion and Yamhill counties, is stranded in what is now the middle of the Willamette river. It is against the approach built during the winter, but flood waters refused to recognize the proper boundaries, and covered the road. Although the waters are now subsiding, it is expected to be some time before the ferry can be put in service, since some repairs to the approach will likely be necessary after it is again above water.
