A delicate moving job was performed this week by a 90-ton crane which moved the water tower near Darigold on Highway 99W off its perch. The 100,000 gallon tower, which stood about 100 feet high, was built when the Nestle’s condensing plant was at the present Darigold site around 1945. Contractor from St. Paul is moving tower to Oregon City. Tower was reportedly built before city water was available and wells drilled produced only salt water. It was kept for emergency use after city ran bigger water line out to plant about six months after tower was constructed. However, water was reportedly never needed from tower for emergency use. Tower also created some vandalism problems and hazard. Working with Contractor Robert McKay on the project is his young teenage daughter, who declined an interview with the N-R.
