The Liberty Bell didn’t ring except in the children’s minds because it was made of paper. The drummer was recalcitrant--he dislike having his picture taken. Too much gravel strewed the road-way for the horse to travel on hands and knees, so he walked upright in time to the music. Otherwise, the only Fourth of July parade in Mcminnville went off without a hitch. It took place on west Star Mill Way in the 10 a.m. sunshine. Participants were children of the neighborhood (front to back) Donna Lyons, Gary Young, Dee Burch, Jeanne Lyons, whose idea the parade was, Carol Young, Margurite Lyons, James and Paul Schmidt. Gary Lyons beat the drum, a red coffee can. Parents of the patriotic paraders are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lyons, Mrs. Marvin Burch, Mr. and Mrs. John Young and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmidt.
